Youth, Smart Agriculture, and Climate Resilience: Insights from GYEO 2024

In the week of 9-13 September, DTL Anna Tibuleak had the privilege of representing the OPTIM Project at the Global Youth Economic Opportunities Summit (GYEO 2024), held in Washington, D.C. The event brought together professionals from across the world to discuss and share key insights on youth opportunities, green jobs, and the future of sustainable agriculture.

Youth, Smart Agriculture, and Climate Resilience: Insights from GYEO 2024
13th September 2024

Our colleague, Anna Tibuleak, contributed her expertise on building climate resilience for Moldovan farmers, particularly focusing on how agriculture can become more attractive and profitable for the younger generation. She emphasized the importance of incorporating digital solutions and sustainable farming practices to help shape the future of agriculture in Moldova.

Key Takeaways:

  1. Youth Involvement in Program Design: To make programs truly effective, youth must be actively involved in the design process.
  2. The Power of Digital Solutions: From AI to drone technology, digital innovation offers immense opportunities to modernize agriculture and engage youth in this traditionally less appealing field.
  3. Strategic Collaboration: Building networks of organizations that support youth economic opportunities is crucial to scaling successful programs. Partnerships between youth and the private sector offer creative and impactful solutions.

At the summit, we explored how projects like OPTIM, implemented by Helvetas, are contributing to youth empowerment and supporting the green transition. By investing in smart technologies and knowledge-sharing, we aim to position Moldova as a competitive player in the agricultural sector on the global map.

We’re excited to bring these valuable insights back to Moldova as we continue to empower young farmers and build a greener, more prosperous future.
